Red Pepper Hummus

I made a Red Pepper Hummus a few weeks ago when friends came over for dinner. We inaugurated the poker set Mahesh had been gifted on his 30th birthday!

Hummus & Pita Bread

I followed Nigella’s recipe except that I used all fresh ingredients. Nothing except the salt, oil, and chilli powder came out of a jar.


1 cup channa soaked overnight and then boiled

1 red pepper

5-6 cloves of garlic

Juice of half a lemon


Chilli powder

1 tbsp of olive oil


I had soaked the channa overnight and then boiled it. I roasted the red pepper (just like how one would roast baingan for baingan bharta) and then peeled the skin off and chopped it.

Next, add all the ingredients into the blender and blitz it till it is turns into a puree. Avoid adding water. It should be thick. Nigella’s recipe called for cream cheese. I skipped it though. It tasted yummy even without it. I added some chopped black olives and drizzled some olive oil on top.
