Fish with olives and sundried tomatoes

How can one use the same ingredients to weave magic every single time? Imtiaz Ali has done it again with Rockstar. The common theme in all his movies (Socha Na Tha, Jab we Met, Love Aaj Kal, and Rockstar) is that of a boy and girl who realise their love for one another while they are in a relationship with someone else. Yet, each story has been individualized and told so differently from the other. At no point does one feel that he is rehashing the same. Do watch Rockstar for Ranbir Kapoor, A.R.Rahman and Imtiaz Ali.

In the kitchen how can one come up with something exciting with the same old ingredients? It is of course not as difficult as making a movie, but can be quite challenging.

This weekend, I recreated a pan tossed fish with olives and sundried tomatoes that I ate in Under the Mango Tree, Bangalore. The dish was extremely simple and delicate. Very few ingredients and spices were used.


500 gms Aar (Catfish) cubes

1 tsp finely chopped garlic

3 tsp finely chopped black olives

3-4 pieces of sundried tomatoes finely chopped

Salt & pepper to taste

1 tbsp olive oil


1. Heat the olive oil and add the chopped garlic. Toss for a minute.

2. Next add the olives and sundried tomatoes and toss for another minute.

Yummy on a winter afternoon

3. Add the fish cubes, salt and pepper and toss for about 5-7 minutes till the fish softens.

You could drizzle some olive oil on top once it is ready. This is yummy by itself. You could also have it with grilled vegetables.
